One of the country’s bestselling authors Chetan Bhagat is known for his versatility not only in his books but also his career as a columnist, screenwriter, reality show judge and a motivational speaker. Out of his numerous successful books, five have been adapted into commercially hit movies. We have compiled some of the actor’s best-seller novels which have been converted into adored Bollywood flicks.
1. 3 Idiots
An adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone, this movie was theatrically released in 2009. Quite different from the main plot of the novel, 3 Idiots featured Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in the lead roles. Helmed by Raju Hirani, this coming-of-age comedy-drama flick successfully emerged as one of the highest grosser of all time. Inspired by the plot and moral of this movie, a Tamil movie Nanban came into being three years later.
2. Kai Po Che
Based on Three Mistakes of My Life, Kai Po Che features Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles. Set in the backdrop of 2000s in the Ahmedabad city, this movie is based on the real-life incidents with the focus on three ambitious friends striving for monetary success. This tale presented the bitter realities of our developing nation and politics. Despite showcasing fresh faces, Kai Po Che was a critically acclaimed flick and garnered commercial success.
3. 2 States
Chetan Bhagat’s book 2 States was adapted into a movie by the same name. Starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in the lead roles, this movie showcased their love story. This blockbuster hit also stars Ronit Roy as the Arjun’s father. Co-produced under the banners of Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, 2 States achieved several awards. This movie’s songs are the audience's favourite till date.
4. Half Girlfriend
Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor collaborated for this romantic flick which is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel Half Girlfriend. Produced under the banner of ALT Entertainment, this movie is a helm of Mohit Suri. Half Girlfriend received mix reviews from the critics.
