Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was on Tuesday named Dadasaheb Phalke winner, Indian cinema's highest honour for an artiste. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar confirmed the news in a Twitter post. "The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and the international community are happy. My heartiest congratulations to him. @narendramodi @SrBachchan," Javadekar tweeted.
What is the importance of September 24?
In a viral video circulating on social media, Amitabh Bachchan returned home from the hospital after being injured in a massive and near-fatal accident on the sets of the 1982 film Coolie. And 37 years later, on the same date — September 24, 2019 — Amitabh Bachchan was named Dadasaheb Phalke award winner. "Today the 24th of September is exactly two months from the date when I was injured and I sit here before you as a result of the efforts of the doctors from (Breach Candy Hospital)," Bachchan says in the video. For those unaware, Amitabh Bachchan on July 24, 1982, was severely injured in his abdomen while shooting a fight sequence in 'Coolie'. On August 2, Amitabh came back to his senses and many fans believe that he was born again on that day.

In a career spanning five decades, Bachchan has given memorable performances film after film and is a four-time National Film Award winner.
