Dadasaheb Phalke Awards: Everything you need to know about the awards
Dadasaheb Phalke awards are one of the most prestigious awards in the country. This year, Amitabh Bachchan is set to receive the award, a unanimous decision.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is considered the most prestigious award in the Indian Film industry. It is named after the father of Indian cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke. He is the man who made the first Indian feature film Raja Harishchandra back in 1913. He then went on to make 95 films and 26 short films in a span of 19 years. The Award was introduced in 1969 to recognise the contribution of film personalities towards the development and growth of Indian cinema. The Award consists of a Swarna Kamal, a Cash Prize of Rs. 10,00,000/- (Rupees Ten Lakhs) certificate, silk scroll and a shawl.
Devika Rani became the first person to receive this award. She was awarded at the 17th National Film Awards. As of 2019, there have been 50 awardees for the award. Amitabh Bachchan will be the 50th person to receive the prestigious award. Amitabh will be awarded for his exceptional contribution to the Hindi film industry. At the ceremony, various performers from films and television gather to pay respect to the legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke. The awards are categorised in two different names; Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Awards and Dadasaheb Phalke film foundation awards

The latest honour awarded to Amitabh Bachchan has put another feather in his cap. The 76-years-old actor has been awarded many prestigious awards in the past. The legendary actor was awarded the Padmashri award in 1984.
