Deepika Padukone made her acting debut in the movie Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan for which she earned the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Since then the Padmavat actor has come a long way. Time has named her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018. Her 2012 romantic movie Cocktail is marked as the turning point of her career. Deepika Padukone is vocal about issues such as depression and mental health. She is the founder of the Live Love Laugh Foundation. It was formed in the year 2015 to bring awareness about mental health in India. The Live Love Laugh Foundation is a non-profit organisation. The foundation focuses on the following objectives:
- To support research in the area of mental health in India
- To create awareness and reduce the stigma around depression
- To support and fund community-based mental health projects that can have a sustainable and a large-scale impact on society.
The main aim of Deepika Padukone’s Live Love Laugh Foundation is to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health. The foundation also spreads awareness and changes the way people look at mental health in general. It also helps in providing a platform that enables people who are seeking help to learn more information and connect with mental health professionals. People are able to share and hear other stories of their own experiences with mental health.
Deepika Padukone is also one actor who has suffered from depression which is one reason that she created this platform for others. She also uses social media as a tool to encourage others to share their stories with mental illness using the hashtag, #NotAshamed. The year after Deepika Padukone founded the Live Love Laugh Foundation, she launched a campaign called “More Than Just Sad.”
On the professional front, Deepika Padukone will be next seen portraying the character of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor, in the movie Chhapaak. Chhapaak is helmed by Meghna Gulzar of Raazi's fame. Along with this, Deepika will also be seen in Kabir Khan’s ’83, playing the role of Romi, the wife of Kapil Dev. The film also stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev.
