EXCLUSIVE: ‘Bollywood is a rotten apple that is slowly destroying India’: Tanushree Dutta on film’s industry’s response to #Metoo movement

Termed as the flag-bearer of the #Metoo movement in the industry, Tanushree Dutta, however, is unhappy with the turn of events in her sexual harassment case against Nana Patekar. The actress lashed out at the lack of importance towards the safety of women, while also slamming Bollywood as a ‘rotten apple’ that is setting a bad example for the youth.

As the Mumbai Police filed a B Summary report, in other words, a closure report in the case due to lack of evidence, Tanushree in an exclusive interview with Republic TV was asked if she felt leaving the country (to USA) after igniting hopes for the harassed, affected her case. The actress replied, “This nonsense started even before I left the country, so please stop the blame game.” 

Alleging corruption in the system, she said, "Safety of women and girls is of least importance and harassment, a commonly accepted thing against which if you speak, all hell breaks loose and all manner of ridiculous allegations start."

Tanushree was also queried if she was satisfied with the response of Bollywood to the #Metoo movement. “No, Bollywood is a rotten apple that is slowly destroying India because of them setting a bad example for youth in our country," the ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ star replied he said citing support for accused persons. 

The suburban Oshiwara police on Wednesday filed a 'B Summary' report before a metropolitan magistrate in Andheri, Deputy Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya told PTI.

Dutta filed the complaint against Patekar in October 2018 in which she accused him of harassing and misbehaving with her while shooting a song on the sets of the film "Horn Ok Pleasss" in 2008.

She also alleged that during the shooting of the song sequence, Patekar inappropriately touched her even after she clearly mentioned that she would not perform lewd, vulgar or uncomfortable steps.

Patekar has denied all the allegations.

Based on Dutta's complaint, a case was registered against Patekar and three others -  choreographer Ganesh Acharya, the film's producer Samee Siddiqui and director Rakesh Sarang - for allegedly molesting Dutta on the sets of the movie.

The 'B Summary' report will absolve Acharya, Siddiqui and Sarang too of the charges.

The accused were booked under IPC Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), but no arrest was made so far
