Surrogacy is much-heard in the news and spoken over social media. While this topic piqued the interest of the audience, Bollywood filmmakers mastered the art of incorporating the concept of surrogacy in the movies. There are quite a few films in Bollywood that tried to highlight the theme of surrogate parenthood but did not gain much attention. Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s upcoming flick Good Newwz will reportedly revolve around the couple’s introduction to the concept of surrogacy. Before jumping into the details of Good Newwz film, here are the top three films in Bollywood that dealt with surrogacy as their main plot.

- Chori Chori Chupke Chupke: This movie starred Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee in pivotal roles. Rani who essayed the character of Priya, unfortunately, lost her child and could not conceive again. Raj, the character played by Salman Khan, meets Madhoo, the role played by Priety Zinta who agrees to become the surrogate mother for the couple. Fans saw a twist in the story when Madhoo, in turn, developed feelings for Raj. The film reportedly saw an overall rating of a 5 pointer on 10, as the story of surrogacy did not click with the fans. - Vicky Donor: Shoojit Sircar’s rom-com Vicky Donor starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam was the story about the edgy adventures of being a sperm donor. Ayushmann played the role of an enthusiastic sperm donor in the film. The story revolves around the fact that one step could bring happiness in a couple’s life. - Doosri Dulhan: This was a film about a childless couple who brought home an adult actor to bear a child for them. In it, Victor Bannerjee and Sharmila Tagore played the role of Anil and Renu, respectively. The film’s story was inspired by the very old American film The Baby Maker. Unfortunately, the film did not work well with the critics and was a big failure at the box office. In an interview, director Lekh Tandon had shared that the whole concept of surrogacy is yet to be spoken about in the Indian society. Merely a tiny per cent of the Indian population was aware of this topic, he added.
