'Gully Boy' Ranveer Singh on cloud nine as film is chosen for Oscars

Ranveer Singh 's ‘Gully Boy’ is India’s official entry to the Oscars. He credited his director Zoya Akhtar’s vision for the recognition and thanked the team.

Ranveer Singh is enjoying a dream run at the box office and his success earned another validation with his movie ‘Gully Boy’ being announced as India’s official entry for the Academy Awards next year. On the latest feather in his cap, Ranveer said that it was a ‘proud moment’ for the team, but singled out special praise for his director Zoya Akhtar and her ‘maverick vision.’ The actor hailed the efforts taken by the team and now hopes to make a ‘significant mark on the World stage.’

Ranveer Singh on cloud nine 

After the announcement made by the Film Federation of India jury, Ranveer exulted, “‘Gully Boy’ echoed the voice of the streets, it will always be one of my most personal films. As always, I will keep striving towards making the flag of Hindi cinema fly high. I’m very happy that the passionate hard work that our cast and crew put into creating ‘Gully Boy’ is reaping rewards. It’s a proud moment for our entire team. I’m especially proud of and happy for Zoya! -  ‘Gully Boy’ is her (Tiger) baby, and I am blessed to have been a part of her maverick vision. With the love and support of our beloved audience, we’re hoping to make a significant mark on the world stage.”

Ranveer also termed as ‘Bhot hard’, one of the terms from the movie that had become a rage among youth, a message released by the makers, Excel Entertainment. The joint statement of the team read, “We are so thrilled that #GullyBoy has been selected as India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. Thank You to the Film Federation of India, Aparna Sen, Anindya Dasgupta, members of the jury and a big congratulations to our spectacular cast and crew.”

Gully Boy success

‘Gully Boy’, a story about a boy from Mumbai slums rising to become a famous rapper,  had released on February 14. It was hailed by critics and audiences also gave it the thumbs up. The film turned out to be a success, earning around Rs 140 crore at the box office in India.
