Kader Khan’s son Sarfaraz Khan has questioned Govinda’s tribute for the late actor by saying that he never enquired about his former co-star's health and didn’t call the family after the veteran's death.
Govinda in his tribute to Kader Khan, had called him not just an ‘ustaad’, but a ‘father figure’, adding that his Midas touch and aura had made anybody who worked with superstars. Mourning his loss, the actor conveyed prayers for his soul to rest in peace.
In an interview with IANS, Sarfaraz laughed off Govinda’s comment and asked him how many times he had called to ask about his father’s health. He added that the actor didn’t even bother to call him since the tragic news surfaced. He rued how the film industry has become now, calling it filled with ‘fragmented camps and loyalties’, ‘out-of-sight-out-of-mind mentality’, which he said can’t be ‘helped.’
Sarfaraz, however, said there were many who his father was close to and added that the latter loved Amitabh Bachchan the most. He shared that the veteran would say Big B’s name promptly whenever asked who he missed the most and that their love was mutual. He expressed an intention to convey to the actor that his father remembered him right till the end.
Sarfaraz said that the affection some of the top stars show to veteran artistes is without any real feelings and only for photographs. He said many of them die without financial and emotional support, however, he along with his brothers looked well after Kader Khan in his last days.
Sarfaraz also said that there was a smile on his father’s face before he died and that smile is something he cherishes. He revealed that the veteran’s last years were extremely painful despite the good medical care in Toronto as the degenerative disease left him without a will to do anything.
Sarfaraz asserted that the family won’t let Kader Khan’s immense contribution to Hindi cinema go futile and that they intend to honour him in a relevant way after the mourning.
