Torrential rainfall in Patna
While the monsoons came to a halt in Maharashtra, the flood ravage continued to plunder other parts of India. Quoted as the worst rainfall experienced in 25 years, the pounding rains in Patna did not only destroy houses but also took lives with the death toll amounting to almost 148 in the country with Bihar recording the death of almost 29 in its State. While the onslaught of the rain continued throughout the past week, provisions in the way of food and other amenities were airdropped to the victims stuck in the submerged areas in Patna.
Patna was the worst affected with life coming to a standstill for its citizens. The heavy rains implored the shutting down of schools and colleges. More than 4,000 people, including women and children, were rescued from the flood-affected areas of Patna on September 30 by the NDRF. The Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday had requested the Indian Air Force (IAF) for two helicopters for lifting and airdropping food packets and medicines, in the flood-affected areas of the region. Dewatering machines were also sought by the State to provide relief in the flood-affected areas.
