The ‘Hrithik Roshan-Kangana Ranaut controversy’ made headlines 2-3 years ago over their alleged relationship, email leaks, controversial statements and legal notices and though it still hasn’t achieved its official closure, ultimately it is a thing of the past. However, the turn of events in the lives of both the actors keep bringing this past event into the present. The latest such incident was the temporary clash at the box office between the former’s ‘Super 30’ and the latter’s ‘Mental Hai Kya.’ After Hrithik released a statement to announce he was shifting the release date of his next to save himself from the ‘personal trauma and toxic mental violence ‘, the actress has hit back. The ‘Queen’ star wondered why the actor wrote a ‘sob story’ since the decision was taken by the makers in consultation with Hrithik to release their movie on July 26.
Kangana, through sister Rangoli Chandel, wrote on Twitter, “Hrithik Roshan, Madhu Mantena and Ekta Kapoor had collectively decided that Hrithik would push Super 30’s release date and Ekta will bring her film MHK on 26th July, they had taken this call last week itself, I don’t know why he wrote this sob story but I am glad MHK getting a solo release, I salute my producer Ekta Kapoor for making her way in this male-dominated industry, its not easy to do what she does.... I applaud her courage and power."
Earlier in the day Hrithik had written, “So as to not allow my film to be desecrated by yet another media circus, I have decided to shift the release date of my film SUPER30 in order to save myself from the personal trauma and toxic mental violence this would cause."
“Despite the film being ready, I have requested my producers to shift and announce the next suitable date as soon as possible.
"Over the past few years, to my utter dismay, I have been witness to a lot of us cheering and encouraging what was/is an open and blatant case of harassment. I must even now, wait patiently and silently for the collective consciousness of society to take cognizance of such matters in order to maintain our faith in the civility of our society. This unrelenting helplessness must end”.
The point to note here is that ‘Mental Hai Kya’ was earlier slated to release on February 22. Later, it was announced it will hit the theatres on March 29, then once again it go postponed to June 21. The latest shift was to July 26, the date on which ‘Super 30’ was earlier set to release.
Even Kangana’s ‘Manikarnika’ was earlier set to release in the first half of 2018, before it faced multiple delays and the makers finally announced Republic Day 2019, the same date that was announced for Hrithik Rohan’s ‘Super 30.’ However, the ‘Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai’ star later changed the release date to July 26.
After another co-incidental clash of dates, reports started doing the rounds that ‘Mental Hai Kya’ release date was being changed on Kangana’s insistence.
However, producer Ekta Kapoor denied it vehemently and added that the move was only for ‘business prospects’ as she condemned the other reports.
Ekta Kapoor took to her Twitter handle and issuing a statement on the clash wrote: "My decision my film.....so all brickbats directed to me pls! I’m my own person !!!" [sic]
