IIFA 2019: Arijit Singh, Harshdeep Kaur, SKTKS bag music honours

IIFA Awards have always stood out from the rest of the awards events, one for holding it in the second half of the year, and the other for hosting it abroad. The latter reason has changed this time as IIFA 2019 is, for the first time, being held in India, and the home of Bollywood, Mumbai. After the IIFA Rocks, the starry appearances on the ‘Green Carpet’ set off the main IIFA 2019 event, which were followed by performances and hilarious acts on stage. However, what fans are most curious to find out is the winners of the awards. In the music department, Arijit Singh, Harshdeep Kaur, the team of ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ and Amitabh Bhattacharya took home the coveted trophies.

Winners

Arijit Singh, who enjoys a massive popularity, won the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for the song ‘Ae Watan’ from ‘Raazi’. 

As far as the female voice was concerned, again it was ‘Raazi’ as Harshdeep Kaur was honoured for her track ‘Dilbaro.’ 

The Best Music Award, however, didn’t go to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for ‘Raazi’ but to the blockbuster ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’, which was scored by Yo Yo Honey Singh, Amaal Mallik, Guru Randhawa, Saurabh-Vaibhav, Rochak Kohli and Zack Knight. 

Amitabh Bhattacharya, meanwhile, won the Best Lyrics for ‘Dhadak’.

As far as the main categories are concerned, ‘Andhadhun’, ‘Badhaai Ho’, ‘Padmaavat’, ‘Raazi’, ‘Sanju’ are in contention for Best Film. 

Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Neena Gupta, Rani Mukerji, Tabu will be jostling for the Best Actress award. In the male category, one of Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal will be declared the winner. 

It’d be interesting to see if lovebirds, Ranbir and Alia, who had both won Best Actor awards in their respective categories, at an earlier awards event and had made headlines, will do so again.

IIFA till now:

The IIFA 2019 had kicked off in grand style with the IIFA Rocks event that was held on Monday. There were some stylish red carpet appearances like that of Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, among others. There were impressive performances that day including that by Amit Trivedi. The technical category awards were also announced that day.
