The few glimpses of Ranveer Singh’s rap in ‘Gully Boy’ as seen in the trailer have made viewers want more of it, but they’ll have to wait till February 14 to experience it fully. However, till then the audiences can make do with this video where we see the actor jamming with ‘underground rappers’ in Bandra, Mumbai. The ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ star proves why he is apt to do the role as his skills even a year ago were, if not on par, but at least close to the rappers that we see in the video.
While ‘Gully Boy’ is about Ranveer, the real stars of the video are the hugely talented and confident rappers. In the two-part video, we see the local boys performing one by one with intense energy and interesting lyrics in English, Hindi and South Indian languages. Apart from the singing, how they create music with their mouths and moves their heads, hands, feet and the entire body are quite a sight.
Ranveer is seen observing and enjoying from the floor above for a long time. Then as he’s prompted by the boys, he joins them and becomes one with them, completely in sync, and his smile just showed how much blast he is having. The actor was not accorded a star treatment, and he was more than happy to wait for his turn, and looked one of them while moving his body to the beats. He also creates the bass effect with his mouth, before delivering a fiery rap piece (towards the end of part 2.)
What’s interesting is that the video was posted almost a year ago, and it seems from the time when the actor was prepping for his role. But considering he rapped so well, we wonder why he needed to prep in the first place. Many of the rappers in the video are a part of the film, and can be seen in the initial few seconds of the trailer.
The director Zoya Akhtar is seen recording the youngsters during the session and we can also see Divine, one such famous rapper, who rose to prominence with a similar beginning, delightfully shooting a video.
Divine and Naezy are among the rappers who have references to Ranveer’s character in the movie, though Zoya had clarified that the story is fictional.
