Joker worldwide box-office collection predictions
The Todd Phillips-directed Joker received an eight-minute standing ovation at its premiere in the Venice Film Festival and is expected to receive similar treatment at the box office. Joker also received the Golden Lion Award at the festival. The film that revolves around the evolution of Batman’s most brutal enemy Joker was made in a budget of $55 million. According to sources, this Joaquin Phoenix-starrer Joker has turned out to be the top international film in the Indian market.
Joker and the controversy of the film inciting violence
Todd Phillips’ Joker has been surrounded by controversy since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival due to the amount of violence and the vengeance shown in the film. The story is a progression of a man named Arthur Fleck who goes into a downward spiral after being mistreated and bullied for working as a clown, which leads him to resort to violence for society’s treatment towards him. In the US, high profile-employees of the Warner Bros. Studios are concerned that the realistic violent drama of the film might fuel the mass-shooting crisis in their country. Some film critics also suggest that the film's negative publicity, due to its threat of inciting violence, will also contribute to the increase in collections at the box office. The release of the film has led government officials to tighten security, citing the likelihood of another mass shooting like the Aurora shooting in 2012 at a theatre in Colorado during The Dark Night Rises.
