Kamal Haasan turned 65 today. The veteran actor has worked in various Hindi and regional south films. Here are some of his best collaboration with filmmakers.
Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, who is celebrating his 65th birthday today needs no special introduction. The actor has straddled the world of Indian cinema for more than 40 years with almost 200 films in various languages. Kamal made his acting debut with the film Kalathur Kannamma (1960). Kamal Haasan first caught the attention of movie-lovers on August 12, 1960, with his superhit films Kalathur Kannamma.
Aval Appadithan
In one of the masterpieces of Tamil cinema, Kamal Haasan played the role of a documentary filmmaker. Through his eyes, the film presents the moving story of Sripriya, a men-hating independent woman with a bitter past. The movie stands out in every bit to be it the theme, direction, dialogues, music, and acting.
Indian
Shankar's 1996 film featured the veteran actor in the double role of father and son. The film tales the story of an ex-freedom fighter-turned-vigilante bent on rooting out corruption. Kamal Haasan won his third National Film Award for Best Actor for this film. Currently, the actor is shooting the sequel, Indian 2, which will reportedly be his last film as an actor.
Guna
Guna still remains unappreciated and had turned out to be yet another box office failure. But we doubt if anyone else could have played an innocent schizophrenic apart from Kamal Hassan to this perfection. The actor won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil.
Thevar Magan
The 1992 release, Thevar Magan was written by Kamal Haasan. The film saw the coming together of Kamal and the stalwart of Tamil cinema, Sivaji Ganesan. The film narrated the ideological differences between the urban son and his rural landlord father. The film was remade as Virasat in 1997, which featured Anil Kapoor, Tabu and Amrish Puri in the lead roles.
Chachi 420
Directed by Kamal Hassan himself, the film Chachi 420 features Kamal Haasan, Tabu, Amrish Puri and Om Puri in the lead roles. Reportedly, the film was previously titled Chikni Chachi then Stree 420. As per reports, the film was based on American movie Mrs Doubtfire.
