Kangana Ranaut will be playing the role of Jayaram Jayalalithaa, late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who was once an actor as well. In a recent interview, Kangana spoke about the process of a look test. She wondered about how it was impacting her expressions and approach towards the character. She also went on to add that this would be a special and one-of-a-kind experience for her. Thalaivi is a multi-lingual film that is set to go on floors after Diwali season. Earlier, the film was to be named Thalaivi in Tamil and Telugu and Jaya in Hindi, but Kangana insisted that due respect must be given to ancient Indian language like Tamil. Hence, it is mutually decided by the film-makers to release the film with the same name Thalaivi, across all three versions. The film is being directed by AL Vijay and produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh. The film shooting will take place in Mysuru, near Karnataka.
Jayalalithaa aka Amma was the actor-turned-politician from the South who had ruled the state of Tamil Nadu for fourteen years as the Chief Minister. Her political career was on the rise as she continued to gain popularity with the masses. She began to be referred to as “People’s CM” and “Iron Lady of India”. She was well-known for her administrative skills and efforts towards gender empowerment. Her government received attention for its extensive social welfare agenda, which included several subsidised “Amma”- branded goods such as Amma Unavagam Canteens, bottled water, salt, and cement.
