Production designers along with art directors put a lot of effort and hard work to create a specific era in which the story is based. The last-minute details and setting in every scene are operated by the designers. They make the viewers feel like they are a part of the story while watching the film. India has given some of the best production designers who are appreciated for their work. Here is a list of five best production designers in the Indian cinema.
Sabu Cyril
Sabu Cyril's notable work in Enthiran earned him international recognition. The film is titled Robot in Hindi. Sabu Cyril is one of the most expensive production designers in India. He is also awarded the National Award for The Best Production Design for four times in his career. He was also a part of the blockbuster film Baahubali: The Beginning.
Sharmishta Roy
Sharmishta Roy is the daughter of famous art director Sudhendu Roy. She assisted her father in his projects in the initial years of her career and later on became an independent art director. She was awarded the National Award for the Best production design for her brilliant work in Meenaxi- A tale of three cities. She has also worked in popular films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Dil To Paagal Hai and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Nitin Chandrakant Desai
Nitin Chandrakant Desai is recognised as one of the most talented production designers in Indian cinema. He has won the National Film Award for Best Art Direction four times. He is known for his best works in the films Devdas, Lagaan, Swades, Eklavya: The Royal Guard, Traffic Signal and many more.
Samir Chanda
Samir Chanda is known for his work for films like Dil Se, Guru, Omkara, Rang De Basanti and many more. He has won the National Film Award for Best Art Direction four times. He started his career in 1983 and is best known for his work in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero.
