Mardaani 2: Rani Mukerji starrer is based on true crime incidents, reveals director

The Rani Mukerji starrer Mardaani 2 is one of the most awaited films on the block. The movie is helmed by Gopi Puthran. Recently in an interview, the director made some interesting revelations about the film. He said that Mardaani 2 is inspired by some real-life crime incidents because these gruesome incidents do manage to shock the masses when they read about it on the paper. He revealed that his film is based on these hard-hitting real-life incidents. He also added that the film focuses on crimes committed by juveniles which are an increasing phenomenon in the country.

Puthran further said crimes committed by such juvenile boys make it all the more heinous and menacing because it is very difficult to recognise them as being such a cold-blooded murderers in our daily lives. The film will reportedly throw light on this social issue. Rani will be reprising her role as the courageous, Superintendent Of The Police, Shivani Shivaji Roy. This time again, she will be pitted against a young but ruthless villain. Reportedly, the film is based on the horrifying crime which happened a few years back on the Yamuna Expressway where four young women were brutally raped.

The trailer of the film also shows the antagonist picking up young women in the car and later, brutally raping them which is similar to the incidents which happened on the Yamuna Expressway. According to sources, when the culprits were caught by the police, they had no remorse for committing the crime and claimed that the crimes were just a tactic to attract the attention of the police. These incidents reportedly became the inspiration for Mardaani 2. The film is bankrolled by Yash Raj Films. It will be hitting the theatres on December 13, 2019. The film is a sequel to the original film, Mardaani which was well-received by the viewers. The film also starred Tahir Raj Bhasin and Jissu Sengupta in pivotal roles.
