Bollywood filmmakers taking inspiration from Hollywood hit films is a common practice in the Hindi film industry, which has been going on since quite some time now. Earlier in the 2000s, there were a lot of Hollywood remakes, here are some of those instances when Hindi films have looked eerily similar to English ones.

Satte Pe Satta (1982)

Surprisingly, the cult drama comedy movie Satte Pe Satta is an adaptation of the 1850’s English film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Satte Pe Satta has Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Amjad Khan, Sachin Pilgaonkar amidst others in pivotal roles. The story of the film is about Ravi (Amitabh Bachchan) and his six brothers who lived on a farm. Ravi gets married to Indu (Hema Malini), a nurse by profession. The other six brothers also wish to get married to their chosen life partners, whom they kidnap to stay with them under the same roof. The film goes through a lot of twists when Ravi’s duplicate Babu, a criminal takes his place instead.

Murder: A Love Story (2004)

The Anurag Basu directorial takes lot of credit for Mallika Sherawat and Emraan Hashmi becoming overnight stars. The film is an adaptation of the Hollywood film Unfaithful. The story revolves around the issue of infidelity, extramarital affair and murder. The movie is a commercial success at the box office. In fact, many songs from the movie like Bheege Honth Tere and Kaho Naa Kaho are iconic till date.

Partner (2007)

Superstar Govinda embarked on his second innings in the Hindi film industry with Partner. It is a remake of the English film Hitch, which stars Will Smith and Kevin James. The film is directed by renowned director David Dhawan. The Bollywood film features Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta in pivotal roles as well. Partner is a blockbuster film and Salman-Govinda’s bromance in the film continues to be highly appreciated by both the critics and audience.

Players (2012)

The film is a multi-starrer with Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu and Neil Nitin Mukesh in pivotal roles. Players is a sheer copy of the hit Hollywood movie The Italian Job. It is a thriller based on the motive of revenge from a former ally by a group of thieves. Unlike the Hollywood film, Players has miserably failed to impress the Indian audience.

Bang Bang (2013)

This Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer is touted amongst the most stylish Hindi movies of all time. But few would know that it is a remake of the Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz film Knight and Day. Yes, from the story plot to scenes, almost everything in the Siddharth Anand directed film was copied from Knight and Day. Similar to its Hollywood version, Bang Bang did great at the box office. Hrithik-Katrina’s sizzling chemistry and some amazing dance songs are the highlights of the film.
