Thackeray is a 2019 film directed by Abhijit Panse. The film was released simultaneously in Hindi and Marathi. Thackeray follows the life of Balasaheb Thackeray who was the founder of Indian political party Shiv Sena. There was a lot of buzz when the Balasaheb Thackeray biopic was announced. Nawazuddin Siddiqui was selected to essay the role of late political leader Balasaheb Thackeray and Amrita Rao was seen playing the role of his wife Meena Thackeray. Even before the film was released, there were reports about a sequel to the film that might be scheduled. Producer Sanjay Raut, in an interview with a news portal, stated that it would be difficult to capture the entire life of the late leader in just one film, which is why there could be a possible sequel to the film.
Reportedly, the sequel film, which would be directed by Abhijit Panse, has been put on hold. Nawazuddin has discarded the rumours, insisting that the sequel to the film will be made. He also revealed that his team is working on the script, which will be finalised soon. The actor, in an interview with a media publication, mentioned that his role as Balasaheb Thackeray is one of his strongest roles and there is no question of the film being delayed. He also added how he was happy with the response that the first part of the film got and so he is looking forward to working on the second instalment. However, the reports say that the film will take some time to release.
Upcoming projects
On the work front, Nawazuddin is currently promoting his upcoming film Motichoor Chaknachoor, which is a romantic comedy. The film also features Athiya Shetty. The movie is scheduled to hit the screens on November 15. The trailer of the film received an amazing response from the audience.
