Panipat trailer: All you need to know about the epic battle

The makers of a new historical period drama Panipat recently released its trailer. The upcoming film stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. Directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, Panipat is based on the third battle of Panipat of Indian history. According to the trailer reviews, Panipat has a major Sanjay Leela Bhansali hangover. It is said that the trailer much resembles Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic drama Bajirao Mastani (2015) that starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
The battle of Panipat
The trailer of Panipat opens by establishing the great Maratha Empire. Arjun Kapoor’s character Sadashivrao Bhau is handed over the Peshwa sword, making him the leader. Sanjay Dutt is seen in a ruthless look of Ahmad Shah Abdali who is the only king of Afghanistan who can conquer the Maratha empire. The trailer also introduces Kriti Sanon as the Maratha’s dutiful wife, Parvati Bai who can swing a sword if needed. Reportedly, India’s Most Wanted actor, Arjun Kapoor underwent a major body transformation for his look of a Maratha warrior in Panipat. He not only went bald for months but also lost a lot of weight to get into the skin of a warrior. The battle of Panipat is considered to be one of the largest and eventful battle fought in the 18th century, during the Mughal rule in India. It is reported to perhaps have the largest number of fatalities in a single day. It took place on January 14, 1971, near Delhi.

According to the history of India, the first battle of Panipat (1526) occurred due to the resourcefulness of the then Mughal commander Babur who overwhelmingly outnumbered the Mughal force at Panipat. His victory enabled him to lay the foundations of the Mughal Empire in India. He started to mount a series of incursions in various parts of North India and started conquering empires of Indian rulers. After Babur’s death, the expansion of the Mughal Empire stalled. It began anew under Babur’s grandson Akbar during whose reign, the second battle of Panipat took place reasoned the same, expansion of one’s power.
