Bollywood actors Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar are gearing up for the release of their new film, Saand Ki Aankh. Helmed by Tushar Hiranandani and produced by Anurag Kashyap, Reliance Entertainment, the film's trailer was recently unveiled. And while netizens loved the storyline and the lead pair's performances, the trailer also ignited the issue of ageism in Bollywood.
Saand Ki Aankh releases on October 25
It all started when Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel criticised the makers of the film for roping in younger actresses to portray the roles of older women in the film. Saand Ki Aankh is based on the story of Prakashi and Chandro Tomar. The duo hail from a village in Uttar Pradesh and through their exceptional talent in sharpshooting, they set an example for women in their village.
Once Rangoli hit out the post, many actors in the likes of Neena Gupta agreed with Rangoli's view. According to Rangoli, Kangana suggested the name of actress Neena Gupta for the role in the film. Neena gave her opinion on this issue on Twitter. She said that she wishes for filmmakers to give roles meant for older women to older actresses.
I liked the trailer, #SaandKiAankh and I have great respect for both the actors @bhumipednekar @taapsee chalo lets wish the film good luck also to #AnuragKashyap who I am very fond of, chalo apna time ayega 😊😊😊😊😊
