Priyanka Chopra is one Indian actress who has been in the news constantly. Be it her 'aww-dorable' relationship with her husband Nick Jonas, or the positive buzz surrounding the release of her forthcoming film with Farhan Akhtar, The Sky Is Pink, the Dostana actress has always been in the public eye. Ever since she won the title of Miss World in 2000, Priyanka has gone ahead to make her own indelible mark on the national and international stage, with her illustrious film career and philanthropic activities. Priyanka is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
1. UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
Priyanka was appointed as the national Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights in 2010. Upon her appointment, UNICEF representative Karin Hulshof said, "She is equally passionate about her work on behalf of children and adolescents. We are proud of the work she has done with us so far on child rights, and we are thrilled about all what we will be doing together so that no child gets left behind." First introduced in 1954, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador is a role that aims to espouse the ideals of the UNICEF. The role of the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador is to use their fame to draw attention to important issues.
2. The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education
Like a lot of celebrities, Priyanka has her own charitable foundation established to help people. She set up the foundation in the state of Minnesota, USA. Priyanka donates ten per cent of her earnings to fund the foundation's operations and she also covers the educational and medical expenses for seventy children in India, fifty among whom are girls. The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education helps provides support to unprivileged children across the country in the areas of education and health.
3. Helping Cancer Patients
In 2014, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, selected Priyanka Chopra as one of his nine nominees called "Navratna" in 2014 for his flagship, high-profile sanitation campaign called the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. She also adopted a tigress and a lioness from the Birsa biological and also looked after their expenses for a year. Priyanka also donated $ 72,000 to Nanavati hospital in Mumbai for a cancer ward. This ward was named after her father and was inaugurated in 2013.
