Priyanka Chopra Jonas is an international sensation today; however, she started her career not as an actor but as a beauty pageant contender. She was just 17-years-old when she took part in the Miss India beauty pageant and eventually won the title. She further represented India at the Miss World beauty pageant and won the title as well as the prestigious crown. The former Miss World often shares a throwback picture from her pageant days and reminisces about her journey. Here is how it all began.

Journey to Miss India beauty pageant

A few years ago, Priyanka had revealed in an interview that when she was giving her board exams, her brother went ahead and sent her pictures to the organisation. She was unaware of the situation until she got a call from the Miss India organisation. She also revealed that a lot of her firsts happened during the Miss India days. She walked the ramp and she had her first photoshoot, had her first time in front of the camera during the Miss India beauty pageant. She also stated that she never intended to do modelling, but wanted to be an engineer. However, she revealed that she liked the experience and chose this as her career path.

From Miss India to Miss World

After being crowned as Miss India World, Priyanka has said that she worked tirelessly to learn and unlearn many things. PC as a teenager was based in the United States of America, where she says she picked up a little bit of her accent, which she had to unlearn. Miss India trainer Sabrina Merchant in an interview stated that although she found Priyanka to be childish, she also remembers her to be a hard-working girl. She further added that it was unbelievable to see how keen PC was on improving herself.

On the night of the finale at Miss World 2000 pageant, Priyanka was asked to name a successful woman living today and why, She spoke about Mother Teresa, earning everyone's appreciation. Winning everyone's hearts, her answer helped her win the pageant. Talking about her Miss World reign, Priyanka Chopra in an interview said that it taught her a lot. She also said that she had an amazing reign and did a lot of work.

Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and Dia Mira were the crowned representatives from India that year. Priyanka was crowned Miss India World, Lara was crowned Miss India Universe, while Dia was crowned Miss India Asia Pacific. That year, all the three women claimed the title at the respective international pageants. Lara Dutta had posted a sweet throwback picture with the ladies, along with their then-and-now looks. Priyanka Chopra Jonas in an interview had spoken about how Lara is lucky for her and vice versa. She said that Dutta was present at all her important milestones, be it Miss India, Miss World, or her first movie in Bollywood Andaaz.
