Ranbir Kapoor has played some really distinct and difficult roles throughout his journey in Bollywood. From the speech and hearing impaired Barfi (Barfi) to the crazy Jordan (Rockstar), but according to him, the most physically demanding and challenging role he ever played was in Sanju. The film was amidst the most awaited movies of 2018, especially after its trailer was launched. The film was highly lauded by critics also enjoyed by the audience too. Ranbir Kapoor transformed himself into Sanjay Dutt, putting himself into his shoes. He seemed so convincing that the audience went into a state of awe, as they couldn't distinguish between the real Sanju and on-screen Sanju. While talking to a source Ranbir shared his experience on playing Sanjay Dutt in his biopic.
He said, I detest the gym, I can't stand it. It's an occupational hazard so I have to go. He believed it was the first time he could do something different with his body. So I took it up as a challenge. Sanjay Dutt represents the epitome of Body Building in the industry, so Ranbir Kapoor had to take this role very seriously and train his body accordingly. He was quoted saying
“ If I am going to play Sanjay Dutt on screen , building my body was essential”.
Details about his transformation journey
It was Ranbir's discipline and determination which made him essay Sanjay Dutt's role onscreen so powerfully. Ranbir had literally changed himself into a bulkier and more muscular man to play Sanjay in the movie. He worked very hard on his body, he had gained a lot of weight. RK used to do muscle training in the gym for numerous hours a day. He used to consume around eight meals a day. Irrespective of Ranbir Kapoor calling himself lazy, he used to get up at 3 am to have his protein shake. He religiously followed his diets and did extensive hours of bodybuilding for months to get the look that Raju Hirani wanted. What was more challenging was the fact that Ranbir Kapoor had to pull off Sanjay's 6 different looks during the film. Fortunately, his hard work paid off and Sanju became a blockbuster. In fact, it managed to touch a milestone of Rs 580 crores as its overall worldwide collection. Ranbir won many awards for his stellar performance in the film as well.
