Randeep Hooda: The actor's most underrated performances

Randeep Hooda is one of the most popular contemporary actors in Bollywood. After completing his degree in Human Resource Management from Melbourne, Australia, he came back to India and started his career as a model and actor in theatre productions. He appeared first time on the silver screen in Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding for which he received a lot of critical appreciation but failed to sustain the attention for very long. Five years later, he appeared in another movie of Ram Gopal Verma, D, but again failed to garner much attention. In 2010, he got a breakthrough when he starred in the commercially successful Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010). Although the actor’s movies have mostly been commercially unsuccessful at the box office, he has, throughout his career, received critical praise for his acting. Here are a few of his underrated movies:

Laal Rang (2016)

Laal Rang is a film about power, money-making and relationships. The movie is set in Karnal, Haryana, where Shankar (played by Randeep Hooda) is a blood mafia who smuggles blood bottles and makes illegal money, risking lives of other people in the process. He later joins hands with Rajesh, a medical college student who gets enticed by his power and money. Unfortunate events bring them on the radar of the police. They create hurdles for them to put them behind bars.

The film, released in 2016, was directed by Syed Ahmed Afzal and produced by Nikita Thakur. Randeep Hooda’s performance in the film received widespread critical acclaim. In the entire movie, he has captured the audiences’ attention and keeps them glued to the screen. Although the movie received a lot of critical praise, it did not do well at the box office.

John Day

This is an intense story that revolves around the mysterious death of John Day’s (Naseeruddin Shah) daughter in a fire forest. A series of events unfold a web of secrets and conspiracies and revealing who was responsible for John Day’s daughter’s death. Randeep Hooda’s character, police officer Gautam, is deeply involved in the racket that was involved in setting the forest on fire for insurance. Although the movie was commercially unsuccessful, Randeep Hooda garnered a lot of critical acclamation for his performance in the movie.

The actor has some upcoming films that are currently being filmed. One of them is Radhe, starring Salman Khan, which is being directed by Prabhu Deva. It is set to release in May 2020.
