Actor Ranveer Singh recently completed the shooting of the film, 83. The film is based on the Indian cricket team's victorious campaign at the 1983 Cricket World Cup held in England. Ranveer will be seen essaying the role of the captain of the Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev. In preparation for the role, Ranveer spent close to 10 days with Kapil Dev at his residence in New Delhi.

The Simmba actor had begun his preparations for the role with Kapil Dev in Dharamshala, but that was to hone his skills for the sport. In an interview that Ranveer gave to a media outlet, he said that he wanted to know and understand Kapil Dev on a personal level. That necessitated the need to stay with him in his residence and understand him on a more personal level. During the stay, Ranveer interacted with Kapil and his family members and understood the various nuances and traits of the veteran cricketer.

Ranveer Singh said that while he was very anxious to portray a living legend, after putting the effort and work in understanding the character, he now feels less anxious and more prepared. One of the details that Ranveer shared in the interview is that one of the toughest tasks for him was to grasp Kapil Dev's bowling technique. It took him a while to tweak his body mechanics in order to nail the bowling action. Ranveer also said that the personal bonding with Kapil Dev was both an immersive and intensive experience for him.
Deepika Padukone also features in the film as Kapil Dev's wife, and she is also co-producing the film. The film is directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Madhu Mantena and Reliance Entertainment. Besides Ranveer Singh, the cast also includes actors such as Tahir Raj Bhasin, Boman Irani, Pankaj Tripathi, Saqib Saleem and Sacred Games star Jatin Sarna. Pritam has come on board as the music director for the film, which will hit theatres on April 10, 2020.
