Sanjay Dutt: Interesting facts about the Prassthanam actor

Sanjay Dutt, popularly known as Sanju Baba or Munna Bhai, has recently starred in a new political family drama film named Prassthanam. It is the remake of the original Telugu film, Prasthanam that was released in 2010. The flamboyant actor made his debut in the Hindi film industry with Rocky in 1981. In his four-decade-long career, Sanjay Dutt has appeared in 150 films so far. 

Here are lesser-known facts about Sanjay Dutt

  • Sanjay Dutt was born on July 29, 1951, and has often stated in interviews that his alma mater is The Lawrence School in Sanawar, near Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. 
  • It has been widely reported that just three days before the release of his debut, his mother died after a long-suffering battle with pancreatic cancer.
  • It has been reported that he changed his name spelling from ‘Sunjay’ to ‘Sanjay’ in order to start a new life after completing his drug rehabilitation.

In the late 1980s, Dutt appeared in many multi-starrer films alongside actors Govinda, Mithun, Dharmendra, Jackie Shroff and Sunny Deol. He went on to star in some of the most era-defining movies like Sadak, Saajan and Khalnayak. He was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Saajan and earned his second Filmfare Best Actor nomination for Khalnayak.

As the decade wore on, he continued to play many lead roles which gained popularity, like in the movie Munna Bhai his character was of a soft-hearted gangster. After winning many hearts in the first film, its sequel Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. also became one of the most loved movies of all time.

Sanjay Dutt’s upcoming projects

Sanjay Dutt is currently working on his upcoming 2020 projects. These include Ashutosh Gowarikar’s historic periodic drama Panipat, Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2 which is the sequel of 1991 Sadak. Sanjay Dutt himself was the lead actor in Sadak alongside Pooja Bhatt. He is also set to come up with one more action-adventure movie called Shamshera, directed by Karan Malhotra.
