Among the most controversial films in recent years, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat was in the news for a long time. Be it the director being attacked for the story that fringe outfits felt was offensive or the movie turning out to be a big hit, there were numerous reasons that the film will be remembered for. However, what made Padmaavat the movie it turned out to be, was the casting. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone had featured in the filmmaker’s two hits, but they didn’t share screen space; but both of them flourished in their respective roles. Though the more performance-based role was for Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor also didn’t get overshadowed and created an impact. Now, as per Shahid, the iconic Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam trio of Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgn could’ve done the Padmaavat roles quite well.
Shahid Kapoor recently appeared on Neha Dhupia’s chat show No Filter Neha’s fourth season. The actor made several interesting revelations on the show. One of the questions posed to him was who he would like to recast as the leads of Padmaavat. Shahid replied, "Actually, the cast of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam would work well for that film as well." Though he didn’t say who among Salman and Ajay could’ve done the role of Alauddin Khilji, it’s just interesting to imagine the stars from their Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam avatars to Padmaavat.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first commercial hit after the critically acclaimed Khamoshi: The Musical. The movie was a love triangle, with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai falling in love, but she eventually getting married to Ajay Devgn. The songs of the movie are still popular. Bhansali then made a few more films that had three protagonists in a love story like Devdas, Saawariya and now Padmaavat.
Padmaavat
Padmaavat is among the top-10 highest grossers of all time, having entered the Rs 300 crore club. The movie is based on the 16th century poem Padmaavat, that spoke about Rani Padmavati’s sacrifice to evade Alauddin Khilji after the death of her husband Raja Maharawal Ratan Singh. Ranveer Singh bagged the Best Actor award at the IIFA recently, apart from other events.
Meanwhile, Shahid delivered the biggest solo hit of his career with Kabir Singh, that almost earned Rs 300 crore. With around Rs 280 crore, it is the second-highest grosser of this year. It was recently overtaken by War.
