Shakuntala Devi biopic: Sanya Malhotra joins Vidya Balan in the cast
After shooting for Vidya Balan's much-anticipated biopic on mathematics genius Shakuntala Devi commenced on September 16, makers have now roped Sanya Malhotra.

Shooting for Vidya Balan's much-anticipated venture, based on mathematics genius Shakuntala Devi, commenced on September 16. Now, makers have revealed that 'Dangal' girl Sanya Malhotra will also be a part of the project. As per media reports, she will be taking up the role of Vidya Balan’s daughter in ‘Shakuntala Devi’. She will join the cast in London by the end of this month.

Sanya Malhotra took to Instagram on Sunday and revealed that she will essay the role of Shakuntala Devi's daughter Anupama Banerji in the upcoming venture. Expressing her excitement over the same, she said, "Time to trace the co-ordinates of Shakuntala Devi's daughter, Anupama Banerji's journey."

Shakuntala Devi biopic
After winning the hearts of the audience with a spectacular performance in 'Tumhari Sulu', Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is all set to grace the silver screen yet again for Indian mathematician Shakuntala Devi's biopic. The actress will reportedly take up the lead role and will portray the mathematical genius on-screen. The project will be helmed by filmmaker Anu Menon who has previously directed movies such as 'London, Paris, New York' (2012) and 'Waiting' (2016).

Shakuntala Devi biopic, with a tagline: "An extraordinary story of the human-computer" promises to explore the life of the Indian genius who earned a place for herself in the 1982 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records. With the talent of calculating mentally, Shakuntala Devi was popularly known as the "human computer". She also wrote a number of books in her later years, including novels as well as texts about mathematics, puzzles, and astrology. Her book 'The World of Homosexuals', is considered the first study of homosexuality in India. She treated homosexuality in an understanding of light and is considered a pioneer in the field.
Anu Menon speaks about working on the film
Speaking about the Shakuntala Devi biopic in a recent interview director Anu Menon said that she has always been fascinated by Shakuntala Devi and truly felt that hers is an incredible story that had to be told.
"She was an extraordinary woman, who lived ahead of her times and on her own terms, unapologetically," Menon said PTI in a statement.
"From Vidya to the rest of the cast and crew, and my producers Vikram and Sony Pictures Networks Productions, I am so glad that all the elements have come together for us to put our best foot forward. I'm delighted that everyone will finally get to witness it on the big screen," she added.
