"The Accidental Prime Minister' maligns Congress, Dr Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi": Party’s youth wing demands screening
The Maharashtra State Youth Congress has objected to the trailer of ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, a film based on the life of former Prime Minister of the country, Dr Manmohan Singh and demanded a screening of the movie. The trailer of the movie starring Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna was released on Thursday.
The Maharashtra State Youth Congress has objected to the trailer of ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, a film based on the life of former Prime Minister of the country, Dr Manmohan Singh, and demanded a screening of the movie.
In a letter addressed to Sunil Bohra and Dhaval Gada, the producers of the movie, Satyajeet Tambe Patil, the President of the Maharashtra State Youth Congress has written that ‘facts have been played with’ and ‘presented in an incorrect manner’ in the trailer to 'malign' Singh, Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the party which was ‘unacceptable’ to the unit.
He further stated that the screening is necessary so that any ‘unfactual scenes or story’ to ‘malign’ the party or the leaders can be edited or deleted. Patil further stated that the makers releasing the movie without the screening will be considered ‘deliberate’. The youth wing president concluded by informing about the ‘options’ they had at their disposal to stop the release across the country for which the makers would be ‘responsible.’
Some of the contentious scenes in the trailer featuring Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna were a line calling Singh as ‘victim of family drama’ and the latter’s character saying how even Mahabharata had two families but India has been ruled by one family. Another line is about ‘PM versus party’ while visuals of protests during the nuclear issue have been shown. The PM’s family members ask him why he was being quiet while his party was ‘shaming’ him, while Sonia Gandhi’s character asks Singh how will Rahul Gandhi take over amid the ‘corruption scandals.’
‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, based on the book of the same name by Sanjay Baru, being played by Akshaye, is directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and presented by Jayantilal Gada’s Pen production house, Rudra Productions and Bohra Bros. The movie releases on January 11.
