TikTok user guide: Here is how you can use the app and start posting

TikTok is currently one of the world’s most popular apps. It is filled with videos of people dancing, lip-syncing, performing stunts, and acting out comic skits. It has more than 500 million active users, and TikTok is taking the App Store by storm and giving stiff competition to other apps. To understand the app better, here are a few simple steps of how to use TikTok with ease.

Download the app and sign up

You can download the app by going to the App Store or Google Play and typing TikTok and downloading it. When you open the app, TikTok makes it easy to sign up. You could do an instant sign up with Gmail, Facebook, and Twitter or a standard username and password if you do not want it to connect your existing accounts.

Set up your profile

Once you log in, you will be directed to the feed of videos, but to set your profile you will have to click on the person’s outline that you will see on the lower right. Enter your profile, tap the edit profile button, then select a profile photo or video. You must also add your username and information. You could also link your other social media profiles if you wish to.

Like, comment, and share a post that you enjoy

When you find a video you like, you could tap on the heart to like it or the speech bubble to comment on it. You can also share a video by pressing the forward sign underneath the comment symbol. These symbols are all located on the right side of the video.

Follow users you like

If you want to keep up with a great video creator, you can follow them by pressing the icon on their video that includes the image of their profile and a plus sign above the heart button. If you know the person or the account, you could just type their name in the search bar and follow them. You could also find them by scanning their TikTok code.

How to record

Press and hold the red button to record the video. For recording the video in pieces, simply hold the record button and let it go, repeat the process for recording the next shot.

Make edits and add a caption

After recording the video, one can add special effects to the videos like filters, musical overlay, stickers, and text overlay. Press next to get directed to a page similar to Instagram’s post page wherein one can add a caption, relevant hashtags, and tag other handles too. One can also save the video by turning on the save the album option.
