Varun Dhawan will star in the remake of his dad, David Dhawan's 1995 film, Coolie No 1. The father-son duo will return with the remake on May 1, 2020 on screens

Varun Dhawan will return to the big screen with two films in 2020. The first release for the year is the Remo D'Souza directorial, Street Dancer 3D, also featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Nora Fatehi. The next release is the remake of the 1995 film, Coolie No. 1. The film will mark the return of Varun with his father, director David Dhawan, after their previous successful outing, Judwaa 2, which released in 2017.

The 2020 remake will see Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan essaying the roles played by Govinda and Karisma in the original respectively. Paresh Rawal will be seen playing Kader Khan's role in the remake, along with Sahil Vaid, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever and Shikha Talsania. Rumi Jaffery, who wrote the original film, has adapted the screenplay this time, and Farhad Samji has written the dialogues. The iconic number, Tujhko Mirchi Lagi Toh, will be recreated for the film.

Coolie No. 1 will release on May 1, 2020

The original Coolie No. 1 was released on June 30, 1995. Directed by David Dhawan, the film featured Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the lead roles, along with Shakti Kapoor and the late actors Kader Khan and Sadashiv Amrapurkar in supporting roles. The film was successful at the box-office, and it kickstarted the No. 1 franchise. Govinda and David Dhawan's pair went on to do wonders at the box-office, and Coolie No. 1 is fondly remembered for Govinda's excellent comic timing and music. To this day, the songs Tujhko Mirchi Lagi Toh and Husn Hai Suhana are still very popular.
