Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film, reportedly titled Udham Singh, is all set to hit the theatres in 2020. The film is directed by Shoojit Sircar, who has directed films like Piku and Vicky Donor. One of his critically acclaimed films is the 2013 hit, Madras Café. Udham Singh is being produced by Shubhendu Bhattacharya. The film is based on the life of Sardar Udham Singh and is expected to release on October 2, 2020.

All about Sardar Udham Singh

Sardar Udham Singh was born in Sunam, Punjab, in the year 1899. By the time Udham Singh turned 10, the patriot had lost his parents. He reportedly spent the rest of his childhood in an orphanage. He was also known by the name Sher Singh. On April 13, 1919, around 20,00 people gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in a peaceful protest against the British. Sardar Udham Singh was reported to have been serving water to the people at this gathering. The then-governor of Punjab, Michael O’Dwyer, executed a mass shootout at this location which lead to the murder of around 1500 people. This unfortunate turn of events went on to be known as the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Sardar Udham Sigh was one of the few survivors from the event. He joined ‘The Gather Party’ in the year 1924 and became a follower of Bhagat Singh. Sardar Udham Singh was also arrested for illegal possession of arms and ammunitions and was put behind bars for five years. Once he was released, he travelled to London in the year 1934. On March 13, 1940, Udham Singh assassinated Michael O’Dwyer at Caxton Hall, London. After killing the former British governor, he went on to surrender and was eventually hanged to death on July 31, 1940. Sardar Udham Singh is remembered even today for his bravery and sacrifice.
