Shahid Kapoor’s reign at the box office lasted for a considerable amount of time, but like the saying goes, all good things come to an end. The actor’s Kabir Singh has finally been dethroned by Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff’s War to be the highest-grossing film of this year. This hardly came as a surprise after the thunderous opening and subsequent stability that the action thriller showed at the box office for two weeks. The Siddharth Anand directorial has now minted over Rs 280 crore at the box office and is now chasing other blockbusters like Dhoom 3 and Sultan.
Even after more than two weeks at the box office, War is still continuing to do well at the ticket windows. After notching up double-digit figures over its second weekend, the momentum continued over the weekdays with collections in the range of Rs 3-4 crore. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie, also starring Vaani Kapoor, beat the collections of Kabir Singh on Tuesday.
He had then tweeted, "#War surpasses *lifetime biz* of #KabirSingh... Now highest grossing film of 2019... [#Hindi; Week 2] Fri 7.10 cr, Sat 11.20 cr, Sun 13.20 cr, Mon 4.40 cr, Tue 3.90 cr. Total: ₹ 268.30 cr. Including #Tamil + #Telugu: ₹ 280.60 cr. #India biz.”
After another decent day at the box office, Adarsh said that War beating the collections of some other blockbusters was inevitable.
The trade analyst then tweeted, “#War will cross *lifetime biz* of #Dhoom3 today [Wed]... Will cross #Sultan over the weekend... [#Hindi; Week 2] Fri 7.10 cr, Sat 11.20 cr, Sun 13.20 cr, Mon 4.40 cr, Tue 3.90 cr, Wed 3.35 cr. Total: ₹ 271.65 cr. Including #Tamil + #Telugu: ₹ 284.20 cr. #India biz.”
War has already entered the top 10 of the highest-grossing films of all-time, and after beating these films, it will climb up to 8th position, behind Padmaavat, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Tiger Zinda Hai, PK, Sanju, Dangal and Baahubali.
War
War is the story of Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s characters, Kabir and Khalid, who had a mentor-protégé equation before things go for a toss between them and they are out to get each other, amid the backdrop of intelligence, security and armed forces. The film has been produced by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films.
