With GST slashed on movie tickets, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan thank PM Narendra Modi
A GST Council meeting was held that announced that tax rates were cut for 33 items, including some consumer goods such as televisions, tires, monitors and movie tickets.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 18, Tuesday held a meeting with the Bollywood actors and producers at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai where several issues concerning the film Industry were discussed, one of which was the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on movie tickets.
After the meeting on the December 22nd, a press conference was held by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, where it was announced that GST for movie tickets above ₹100 is reduced from 28% to 18% and for tickets below ₹100, the GST is reduced from 18% to 12%. Further, the tax rates were cut for 40 items, including some consumer goods such as televisions, tires, monitors and more. The decision has been lauded by many of the film fraternity members who also took to social media to express their happiness.
Akshay Kumar took to Twitter and expressed his joy at the fact that GST (Goods and Services Tax) for film tickets have been reduced. He wrote, "Quick action and how! Within a few days of our meeting with hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, the Government addressed our concern...GST for movie tickets to be reduced. A welcome move for the industry and audiences as well."

Apart from him, Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh also took to Twitter to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to ANI on GST being slashed on movie tickets, the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification Prasoon Joshi said "It’s a significant decision after the fruitful interaction of industry representatives with PM. It was reassuring that PM addressed important issues & challenges faced by the industry&took prompt action."
However, after the Bollywood fraternity meeting with Prime minister Narendra Modi ended, it drew flak from many as there was not even a single woman at the meeting. Showing her disappointment, Dia Mirza tweeted "This is wonderful! Is there a reason why there was no woman in this room"?
Her tweet was in response to Akshay Kumar thanking Prime minister Narendra Modi for slashing GST on movie tickets.
Present at the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi were producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Karan Johar, Rakesh Roshan, Ronnie Screwwala, Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Sidharth Roy Kapoor, the president of the Film Producers Guild were part of the exclusive meeting. Actors and producers Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar made their presence as well.
