91st Oscars Shortlists: While Indian Venture 'period. End Of Sentence' Has Retained Its Place, 'Village Rockstars' Has Been Pushed Out Of The Academy Race
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have narrowed down their list of contestants for 91st Oscars and announced the list of semi-finalists in nine separate categories on Tuesday, December 18.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have narrowed down their list of contestants for 91st Oscars and announced the list of semi-finalists in nine separate categories on Tuesday, December 18. The organization took to Twitter and released the final list which includes Guneet Monga's film 'Period. End of Sentence' that highlights Indian women's fights against the deeply rooted stigma of menstruation.
The 26-minute film directed by award-winning Iranian-American filmmaker Rayka Zehtabchi narrates the experience of a group of girls and women from a small village in northern India who combats social stigma to install a pad machine in their village. The film has been selected for the Documentary Short Subject category.
Producer Guneet Monga also took to Twitter to talk about the achievement of the film. He took to Instagram and said, "Waking up to this shortlist!! So proud and soo exciting. Watch out for “Period. However, the list excludes much-anticipated Indian venture 'Village Rockstars' for the Foreign Language Film Category. Iram Haq's Norwegian drama 'What Will People Say', starring Indian actors Adil Hussain and Ekavali Khanna, has also been pushed out of the Oscar race. Nominations for the 91st Oscars will be announced on January 22, 2019, ahead of the Oscars ceremony which is slated to be held on February 24, 2019.
