As many as 14 Mattel titles including Barney, Polly Pocket, Thomas and Friends and American Girl are now under production. Naturally, the possibility of a Barbie sequel is also very high. However, the director of the film, Greta Gerwig has stated that she is not currently considering a sequel.
She said, “At this moment, it’s all I’ve got,” Gerwig said. “I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did. I wouldn’t want to squash anybody else’s dream but for me, at this moment, I’m at totally zero.”

Speaking to Variety, Kreiz emphasised how Mattel Films' initiatives will ideally lead to the emergence of new film franchises. He noted that at first, everyone was waiting to see how well Barbie fared in order to determine whether or not things were on the right route, but now it appears that work is moving forward at full speed on the potential sequel. "Successful movies lend themselves to more movies," Kreiz added. “Our goal is to start movie franchises.”
Barbie is a story of self-discovery
Directed by Gerwig, Barbie is written by the director and her husband Noah Baumbach. It features Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, and Will Ferrell. The movie revolves around a doll who embarks on an adventure in the 'real world' to seek her place and challenge the superficial standards of perfection.
