In an interview with a foreign media, Eddie Murphy spoke about his semi-retirement. Eddie Murphy attended a show, where Al Rocker interviewed him about his upcoming movie Dolemite Is My Name. The discussion further went ahead with Murphy telling about his semi-retirement.

During the show, he said “For maybe five or six years, I was on the couch, just doing nothing, and not planning and not trying to get anything. I had things in development, but I just was doing nothing” as reported by ANI. 

Murphy feels still in a semi-retired state

Eddie Murphy said he still feels he is in a semi-retired state. The comedian believes that even though he was not actively working, yet he enjoyed his time. Murphy loves working on films but more than that he loves not working according to any schedule. In the interview, he said, “I’m never ever if that means people love these pictures I’m doing — I’m never going to be on it like I was in my 20s”. He further added,  “What I like to do more than anything is to not have a schedule and just be within earshot of my children. That’s my favourite dish.”

The plan is to get back to his couch

After Murphy was blessed with his tenth son Max, he likes to spend more time with his children and fiancée Paige Butcher. However, the actor added that he will continue to do more movies if the right scripts come along his way. The movies must be worth investing his time. Murphy told Roker, “I don’t want to say I’m retired like I won’t do anything. If some great thing comes along, or if some great thing happens, some great director or some great idea, of course, I’ll make other movies”. Murphy also said he would love to get back in stand-up, and will always do it. Roker during the interview emphasized that Murphy is actively promoting his movie and is busy executing his stand-up tour. Murphy agreed that he has no time and is extremely busy, but that certainly will lead him back to his couch with no work to do. He said, “That’s the plan: Go do this little stuff, do these three movies, do Saturday Night Live, do stand-up and then back to the couch.”

Eddie Murphy to play a comedian in his upcoming movie

Eddie Murphy in his upcoming movie Dolemite Is My Name, directed by Craig Brewer which plays a comic character of Rudy Ray Moore who would disguise in the character of Dolemite in order to transgress to Blaxploitation icon in the ’70s.
