Elton John calls ‘The Lion King’ remake ‘huge disappointment'
British singer-songwriter Elton John finds Disney's remake of 'The Lion King' disappointing and said the creative team especially messed up with the music.
British singer-songwriter Elton John said that he finds Disney's remake of The Lion King disappointing and said the creative team especially messed up the music that he wrote for the original animated film. The legendary pop star said that the authenticity was lost from the new film. He said the music in the current film didn't have the same impact and the originality was lost. He also described the commercial performance of the film's soundtrack and said the original music of 1994 received a stronger reception.
Soundtrack hasn't had same impact: Elton John
He said the soundtrack hasn't had nearly the same impact on the charts that it had 25 years ago when it was a bestselling album of the year. He added that the new soundtrack plummeted the chart very quickly despite the massive box office success. Elton said that the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time. He said he wasn't treated or welcomed with the same amount of level of respect which makes him extremely sad. John expressed his regret about not being much involved with the project. John noted that the new Lion King has garnered over $1 billion worldwide and is a super hit in the box office. The film's ultra-photorealistic character designs and few changes from the original movie were the major drawbacks according to the viewers and critics.
John composed and performed a couple of songs
The legendary musician composed and performed a couple of songs including Circle of Life and I Just Can't-Wait to Be King for the original 1994 animated film. The latest film contains performances from other artists such as Pharrell Williams, Beyonce and Donald Glover. The film was released on many digital platforms on Friday and will be available on Blu-ray from October 22.
John has been having a wonderful year, between the release of the smash-hit biopic Rocketman in May and his new autobiography, Me, which hit shelves on Tuesday. The artist is right now venturing to every part of the globe on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
