LAPD raises security at cinema halls ahead of 'Joker' release
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has decided to increase security ahead of the release 'Joker'. This comes after victims of 2012 shooting raised concerns.
'Joker' is all set to hit theatres next week, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has decided to increase security at cinema halls. The decision has come in the wake of heightened controversy and concerns surrounding the violence involved in the movie. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, the movie depicts a depressed loner who faces disappointment at every turn that leads him to create havoc around the city.
LAPD on alert for 'Joker' release
The LAPD assured that they are aware of the history behind the premiere of 'Joker', as families of victims of July 2012 shooting at a theatre in Aurora, Colorado during the premiere of 'The Dark Knight Rises' raised concerns. The accused James Holmes shot and killed people watching the final Christopher Nolan Batman film. Incidentally, according to reports the movie won't be played at Aurora, Colorado.
Reacting to the controversy, Warner Bros studios had stated the families of the Aurora mass shooting victims, expressing their concerns. The statement said that they do not endorse real-world violence of any kind and the fictional character nor the movie glamorizes the character as the hero.
"While there are no credible threats in the Los Angeles area, the department will maintain high visibility around theaters when it opens," department spokesman Josh Rubenstein said to a news publication. The FBI has also advised local law enforcement of any potential alarming online posts about the film.
In another development, Actor-producer Joaquin Phoenix has already bagged his next role in an untitled drama. Phoenix will feature in indie filmmaker writer-director Mike Mills’ next. The production of the film will begin soon. The film will be produced by Chelsea Barnard, Lila Yacoub and Andrea Longacre-White.
