English singer-songwriter Mick Jagger paid tributes to legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker, who passed away on October 6 at the age of 80. Jagger said he is extremely saddened after hearing the news. He added Baker was an extremely talented and innovative drummer. "Sad news hearing that Ginger Baker has died, I remember playing with him very early on in Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated. He was a fiery but extremely talented and innovative drummer," Jagger tweeted. Adding to his tribute, McCartney highlighted that they worked together on the Band on the Run album which was recorded in ARC Studio in Lagos, Nigeria. "Sad to hear that he died but the memories never will. X Paul," McCartney tweeted.

Baker was critically ill: Family

Baker's daughter Nettie confirmed that he died in Britain. She did not give any other details. Baker's family had said on September 25 that Baker was critically ill and was admitted to the hospital. Flea tweeted that Baker was a "wildman" and who dealt the drums with "so much freedom. "Van Dantz said that Baker was "one of the greatest drummers of all time" and suggested that anyone who has not listened to Cream's music to start by listening to the band's second album, "Disraeli Gears."

About the Band 

The band was formed in 1966 and consisted of Baker, bassist Jack Bruce, and guitarist Eric Clapton. Sunshine of Your LoveWhite RoomCrossroads, and Strange Brew are some of their super hits. The band is considered to be a supergroup as the band was formed by already established musicians. The band split in 1968 after two years and reunited for the first time in 1993 when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The band received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 2006.
