The 92nd Academy Awards will have a record-breaking aggregate of 93 nations sending their names to compete in the Best International Feature Film category. On October 9, international media reported that The Academy put out the whole line-up of worldwide movies to contend in the best feature section on their site. It was also reported that countries like Ghana, Nigeria, and Uzbekistan have also entered the race to fight for the feature category for the first time. There were a total of 92 entries that made to this category in 2017.
The feature film category
A portion of the sections incorporates Spain's 'Pain and Glory', Japan's animated film 'Weathering With You', South Korea's 'Parasite' and France's 'Les Miserables'. It is reported that Gully Boy, by filmmaker Zoya Akhtar will make an official entry into Oscars 2020. The movie was inspired by Naved Shaikh aka Naezy and Vivian Fernandes aka Divine. Out of 93 entries, only 10 will be shortlisted and compete for the Oscars. The final list is expected to come out on December 16. However, the final nominees fighting for the best feature category will be declared in 2020 on January 13.
The 92nd Oscars
The much-awaited 92nd Oscars are scheduled to happen on Sunday, February 9, next year. The event will take place at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. The event will be broadcast live from the theater on ABC Television Network. The awards will be presented for 24 categories. The meeting held on April 2019 of the board of directors voted to rename the "Best Foreign Language Film" category to "Best International Feature Film". It is reported that documentary and animated films can also run for the category. The main criteria, however, will remain that major dialogues of the film must be in a foreign language and not in English.
