The famous chart-topping rapper, Nicki Minaj, tweeted on September 5 to announce that she has decided to retire and have her family. Her announcement comes as a surprise after she recently made a guest appearance on Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot Girl Summer. Nicki Minaj in her tweet took a jab at her critics and asked her fans to “keep reppin me, do it til da death of me.” Earlier in July, she announced she was withdrawing out from a show in Saudi Arabia to show support for women's rights, gay rights and freedom of expression. She also canceled her appearance at the BET Experience Concert earlier this year. Minaj released her fourth studio album “Megatron” last year.

One of the most influential female rap artists

Her original name is Onika Tanya Maraj who is professionally known as Nicki Minaj. She is a Trinidad and Tobago born rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and model. She was born in St James, Port of Spain and raised in Queens, New York City. She gained fame after releasing the mixtapes Playtime is Over (2007), Sucka Free (2008), and Beam me up Scotty (2009). Minaj released her first studio album, Pink Friday (2010) after signing with Young Money Entertainment in 2009.
Earlier in her career, Minaj was known for her colorful costumes and wigs. She was the first female artist included on MTV's annual Hottest MC List. She has been called one of the most influential female rap artists of all time.

She has received numerous accolades including six American music awards, 11 BET Awards, 4 MTV video music awards, 4 Billboard music awards and 10 Grammy award nominations. Minaj on average has sold  20 million singles as a lead artist, 60 million singles as a featured artist, and over five million albums worldwide which makes her one of the world's best selling music artists. She has struggled with her acting career at the age of 19. She worked as a waitress at a Red Lobster in the Bronx but was fired because of misbehaving with the customers. She revealed that she has been fired from at least 15 jobs due to similar reasons.
