Mark Ruffalo's version of Hulk was reportedly loved by fans in its first appearance back in 2012 with the film Avengers. He later made appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films like Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. With Bruce Banner's story arc coming to a semi-conclusion in Endgame, fans are reportedly waiting to see where the character goes next. Here's what Mark has to say about it.
Hulk's story arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Earlier, the character of Hulk was portrayed by Edward Norton in the MCU. After Edward had a creative fallout with Marvel studios, Mark Ruffalo was cast to play the iconic green giant. Hulk was introduced as a raging force which was frowned upon in the first Avengers film. Bruce Banner is seen as being in constant war with himself to curb the monster which resides inside him. In the later films, he is seen coming to terms with the Hulk and in Avengers: Endgame he had fused into the character of Professor/Smart Hulk, a smarter and much mellow version of the raging character. It was stated by Mark Ruffalo that he cannot feature in a solo movie as the Hulk, as Paramount Pictures still hold the cinematic rights to the character. So, keeping Hulk as a side character is the only option the makers were left with, recent reports suggest that Mark Ruffalo might be making a comeback with the character.
Mark hints at reprising the role of Hulk in She-Hulk.
Recently while speaking to a news daily, Mark Ruffalo opened up his views on playing the Hulk in the future. He believes that there is more left with that character, especially with Professor Hulk being introduced in the last film. He assumed that his story arc was going to come to an end, but it possibly may not be the case. He stated that he will be having a meeting with Kevin Fiege (head of Marvel Studios) to see if anything is left to do or say with the character in the future. He also added that there is a lot of room for the character to be present as a wise guiding force for the newer character. He stated that She-Hulk can also be one character his version of Hulk can team up with. Mark Ruffalo is currently promoting his film Dark Waters which is scheduled to release on November 22, 2019.
