Filmmaker Steven Spielberg, the brains behind the legendary ‘Jaws’ series, is set to write a horror series for mobile-focused streaming service Quibi ("Quick Bites" for short), that viewers will only be able to watch when it's dark outside.

While ‘Jaws’ is considered by many to be a 'horror movie' and yet with all the acclaim Speilberg received after it, the Hollywood icon has never returned to direct another, though he has been involved with some classics over the years like Poltergeist, Gremlins, and The Twilight Zone.

Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenberg was at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada on Sunday and said,

"Steven Spielberg came in, and said, 'I have a super scary story I want to do. He's writing it himself. He hasn't [written anything in a while] so getting him to write something is fantastic."

Quibi, short for "quick bites." is described as a "burgeoning short-form programming incubator". Katzenberg says that virtually every major media conglomerate is an investor and the upcoming service has raised $1 billion thus far. Quibi will offer 125 pieces of content a week from the likes of Spielberg, along with the likes of Steven Soderbergh, Guillermo del Toro, and Sam Raimi. Other names currently associated with the services are Catherine Hardwick, Anna Kendrick, Doug Liman, Laurence Fishburne and Antoine Fuqua.

To implement Spielberg's request that the show only be viewed after dark, Quibi engineers developed a clock that will appear on viewers phones, tracking the sunset and then sunrise.

According to Katzenberg, Spielberg has "written five or six episodes" already with a possible 10-12 in the works. The working title is "Spielberg's After Dark."

Quibi is heading towards a launch in April 2020.
