The hit American science fiction-horror web series by Netflix, Stranger Things has got a masterpiece fan tribute in the form of a two-minute anime trailer by Octopie Network. The trailer is so cool that it is now going viral and every 80's anime viewer is totally digging it. The anime condenses Stranger Things Part 1 and Part 2 and captures each character's essence with minute details hitting all the right notes. Moreover, there’s remixed theme music in the background that accents this video perfectly.
What's in the trailer?
You don't really need to be an anime fan to appreciate the wonders of the trailer. The trailer is so much like the series that anyone who has watched it will totally identify who's who in the anime form. The video captioned as, “If Stranger Things Was an 80s Anime,” shows the Dungeons & Dragons game board in the first shot along with the four boys from Hawkins: Will, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin. Just then you see Eleven in the lab with Dr. Brenner, Joyce and the blinking Christmas lights, and Steve’s spiked baseball bat which simply flips you upside down. What's more? You can see Barb as well!
About the makers of the video
As per a gaming website, the trailer has been created by Humouring the Fates studio. In an interview with a news publication, the design team said that Octopie tapped them down to make something cool for Stranger Things. Adi Tantimedh, one of the writers for Humouring the Fates, said that the theme in the anime is manga and anime. The reason is that the theme is all about teenagers teaming up together and vanquishing evil with the power of friendship. What the anime tries to portray is 'jigoku' - Hell or the Underworld – which is often portrayed in Japanese movies, folklore, and anime, he said.
The anime connect in Stranger Things
Humoring the Fates studio deliberately recreated the anime version by recreating various 80's cartoon intros and paying attention to cues from the Duffer Brothers. You would be surprised to know that Stranger Things team had earlier cited that the Eleven was actually inspired from the anime, Elfen Lied. Artist LD Walker, who drew the anime trailer said that the team also tried to draw inspiration from the aforementioned anime. The team found similarity with a character Lucy with her psychic powers and how she was raised as a child weapon, her escape from the lab, and also how she was even adopted by good-natured people who took the edge off her will to kill.
