The Addams Family: who were the members of the iconic Addams Family?

The Addams Family is one of the most iconic cartoons of all times and was first drawn by the cartoonist Charles Addams, who introduced the family to the world in 1938 through The New Yorker's comics panel. The Addams Family became world-famous once they made their debut in the classic 1960s show. Since then, the family has had numerous shows and movies based on them. The family will now make its return to the big screen with the 2019 CGI animated film The Addams Family, so here is a quick refresher on all the members of the iconic family.

• Gomez Addams: Gomez is the patriarch of the house. In all his appearances Gomez has always dressed in formal attire and sports a moustache without fail. He may be the family head but he is extremely naive and childish. Gomez has such deep affection for his wife that he goes crazy in love at anything she does.
• Morticia Addams: Morticia is the wife of Gomez and the mother of the two Addams family children. She is usually depicted wearing a long black dress and looks extremely menacing. She also likes to play musical instruments and has a carnivorous plant that she likes to feed. She is also the traditionalist of the house and is irritated whenever someone from the family does something pleasant.
• Pugsley Addams: Pugsley Addams is the eldest child of Morticia and Gomez. He was originally portrayed as a devious and evil child, though in all his latest incarnations he has always been nice but with an unnatural ability for building highly complex machines. In all of his incarnations, Pugsley has always been overweight and loves eating an obscene amount of food.
• Wednesday Addams: The youngest daughter of Gomez and Morticia, Wednesday is usually seen wearing black clothes and having pale skin. She is goodnatured in the 1960s show but rarely smiles, is fascinated by anything macabre or disgusting and loves raising spiders. However, in the original comics and more recent incarnations, she is far more vicious and sadistic.
• Uncle Fester: Uncle Fester has always been portrayed as an overweight and completely bald man who wears a long coat. He had the odd power of conducting electricity through his body in the original comic and the 1960s show. In the cartoon, he tended to play with bombs that would often blow up in his face.

• Grandmama: Grandmama is the mother of Gomez. Very little is known about her past. She has a dark sense of humour and knows witchcraft. She is often portrayed with frizzy white hair and wearing a sweater or shawl.
• Lurch: Lurch is the tall and superhumanly strong butler of the family and resembles the Frankenstein's monster. Lurch is loyal to the Addams Family and the family considers him one of their own. He is capable of speaking but often only speaks through groans, however, the family never has any problems understanding him.
• Cousin Itt: Cousin Itt is the only Addams Family member that was not originally created by Charles Addams. He first appeared in the 1964 show and is always portrayed as someone completely covered by hair. His only other visible features besides his hair are the sunglasses and tophat that he wears.
• Thing: Thing only had a brief unnamed appearance in the original comic strip. The first show turned him into a major character. Thing is nothing more than a disembodied hand that moves on its own. It is another helper for the Addams Family. It cannot talk either and instead communicates by snapping its fingers.

These were the main characters of the iconic Addams family. All of them will be reappearing in the 2019 film The Addams Family. The movie is set to release on October 18, 2019. The trailer for the movie was shared online in August.
