The 'Inception' Climax Was a Reality and Not a Dream. Here's How We Know....

When Christopher Nolan's film 'Inception' hit screens in 2010, it created quite a buzz for its ambiguity. The Leonardo DiCaprio starrer follows the story of a thief who is given the task of planting an idea into the mind of a CEO. Although it has been eight years since the film's release, Nolan until today has kept audiences guessing about which part of the film was real and which part was a dream. However, it seems like actor Michael Caine, who played DiCaprio's father-in-law in the film has finally decoded one of the biggest mysteries of the decade!

Most of the audiences (although some might not accept it) were left scratching their heads after watching this highly acclaimed film. The Academy Award-winning director Christopher Nolan's directorial seamlessly drifted between reality and imagination. The cliffhanger climax of the film left everybody wondering if DiCaprio truly does reunite with his family. To jog your memories, in the climax of the film, Leo DiCaprio's character Cobb was shown reuniting with his family. During a screening of 'Inception' in London recently, actor Michael Caine, who plays Cobb's father-in-law Stephen Miles in the film let the cat out of the bag.

While talking about the film's ambiguity, the actor said, "When I got the script of Inception, I was a bit puzzled by it and I said to [Nolan]... 'when is it the dream and when is it a reality?'"

The actor further went on to reveal that Nolan then told him that the scenes which feature Caine's character are a reality. Yes, it's as simple that! and going by this explanation, since Caine is very much is a part of the last scene, (in fact Stephen Miles is the one who can be seen taking Cobb back to his family) it is real and not a dream.

This, of course, could have just been Christopher Nolan's attempt to simplify the script for Caine and doesn't necessarily mean that it could not hold true for scenes which the actor is not a part of. 'Inception', which also starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, among others, went on to win numerous awards.
