Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman was criticised recently for his daughter Khatija wearing a niqaab at the celebration of the 10th anniversary of 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Following the same, Khatija on Thursday, February 7, took a strong stand for her father and affirmed that it is her choice to wear the headscarf.
Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman was criticised recently for his daughter Khatija wearing a niqaab at the celebration of the 10th anniversary of 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Several pictures of the event surfaced on the internet, where Rahman's daughter Khatija was seen donning a black niqaab as she gave a heart-warming speech for her father. Following the same, several people on the internet took a dig on the music maestro saying that he is 'conservative' and has forced attire on his daughter. In fact, he was also questioned for having double standards.
Defying all such allegations, Khatija on Thursday, February 7, took a strong stand for her father and affirmed that it is her choice to wear the headscarf and her father has nothing to do with it. She penned a long on Facebook slamming the critics and clarifying her point on 'freedom of choice'.
Sharing a picture with his father from the stage of the event and a black note reading, 'Freedom of Choice', she stated, "The recent conversation of myself on stage with my dad has been doing the rounds although I didn’t expect such an overwhelming response. However, there were certain comments which said that this attire is being forced by my dad and that he has double standards. I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour. I’m a sane mature adult who knows to make my choices in life. Any human being has a choice to wear or do what he/she wants and that’s what I’ve been doing. Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation. #freedomofchoice"
