Mike Shinoda is known throughout the world as the founding member of the LA-based rock band, Linkin Park. Fort Minor is a hip-hop based side-project by Michael Kenji Shinoda who is popularly known by his stage name Mike Shinoda. Mike Shinoda started the project in the year 2004. The Rising Tied and the formation of Fort Minor:
Mike Shinoda collaborated with the underground hip-hop group Styles Of Beyond and formed the hip-hop project, Fort Minor. He started recording songs for this hip-hop group following the release of Linkin Park’s mixtape Collision Course. DJ Green Lantern and Mike Shinoda created the Fort Minor: We Major mixtape to promote Fort Minor’s debut album titled The Rising Tied.
The fourth single from The Rising Tied, Where’d You Go went on to become the most popular track from the debut studio album. MTV also awarded it the Ringtone Of The Year in the year 2006. Following the success of Where’d You Go, Fort Minor peaked at number 104 on the Billboard 200. The song Remember The Name also went on to get featured in the trailer of the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid.
The Indefinite Hiatus:
Following the success of the Rising Tide and the popular single Where’d You Go, Fort Minor went into an indefinite hiatus. Mike Shinoda also got busy with his commitments to the LA-based rock band, Linkin Park and their third studio album Minutes to Midnight. Fort Minor was listed at number 19 in the Billboard’s list of One-Hit-Wonders due to the success of their hit single Where’d You Go. Mike Shinoda and Ryu also hinted about a second album by Fort Minor, following the release of Linkin Park’s sixth studio album in 2014.

Welcome and Mike Shinoda’s Solo Act:
On June 21, 2015, Mike Shinoda released a non-album single titled Welcome and marked the return of Fort Minor into the business. The current whereabouts of the hip-hop initiative are unknown. However, after the lead singer of Linkin Park, Chester Bennington committed suicide, Mike Shinoda started performing Fort Minor songs as a solo act in live shows.
